Jerseyman to cycle around the world in aid of Durrell
The journey will take Pat from the coasts of Jersey across Europe, down to the tropical islands of Mauritius and Madagascar, then across to the grasslands and rainforests of India and Sumatra. From there, he will travel down through Australia before catching a flight to South America to see our work on Floreana in the Galapagos Islands. He will then travel to the forests of Saint Lucia in the Caribbean before visiting the rainforests of Brazil and then flying to Portugal to pedal his way back up to St Malo.
Pat is no stranger to challenging endeavours, having previously cycled 13,000 miles across the Northern Hemisphere in 2016. His first adventure in aid of Durrell was walking the length of Britain, from Land’s End to John O’Groats, in 2017. Now Pat has chosen to undertake his biggest and most exciting adventure yet, as the 20th September 2019 marks 500 years since Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan set sail on the first full circumnavigation of the world. Pat will leave Jersey on that date and expects to return approximately 18 months later in 2021.
Pat is now organising ways to fundraise throughout his journey and engage people with him on his travels. Although Pat is personally funding his travel across the mainland, he is currently searching for sponsors to help fund his flights to the remote islands of Mauritius, Madagascar and Saint Lucia to ensure that he makes it to our rewilding sites. Should you be interested in sponsoring Pat’s journey, please email our Fundraising Manager Beth.Gallichan@durrell.org for more information.
