Durrell Challenge 2019: do it for Durrell alongside ambassador Henry Cavill

Now in the event’s fourth year, we are excited to invite runners of all abilities to take part in the Durrell Challenge 2019 to help celebrate our 60th anniversary and raise valuable funds for our work saving the world’s most threatened wildlife.

Organisers are delighted to announce that Durrell Ambassador Henry Cavill will return to the Island this year to support the event on Sunday 12th May. Henry will be taking part in the 13km road race, as well as hosting a VIP experience for runners who register as a VIP and pledge to raise over £1,200 for Durrell.

The 13km race, which starts at Victoria Park and finishes at the Jersey Zoo, will once again take runners on a challenging route through lush valleys and quiet country lanes. With over 450 runners and nearly 50 VIP runners signed up so far, we are hoping for the Durrell Challenge 2019 to be our biggest and best to date.

The zoo will again be open from 9am to enable friends and families to support their loved ones across the finish line. Like last year, the 13km is just one element of a day full of festivities.

After the race, runners and members of the public are invited to the zoo for the Really Wild Day, where they can head back to nature and get involved in wild activities. Enjoy live music as well as food and drink within the beautiful zoo grounds. Learn about the fascinating animals and find out about our global work to save species from extinction.

Mission Possible is a fun new adventure for children aged 10 and under. Mini super agents will be given an important mission to complete for Durrell — they will need to solve clues to save some of the most threatened species at Jersey Zoo.

We are extremely grateful to Butterfield Bank for sponsoring the Durrell Challenge and Really Wild Day, and to Appleby for sponsoring Mission Possible.

Commenting on their sponsorship, Noel McLaughlin, Managing Director at Butterfield Bank (Jersey) Limited, said: “We are delighted to support the Durrell Challenge and Really Wild Day for 2019 and 2020. Both are fantastic events, which raise money for such a worthy cause. Durrell does excellent work restoring and conserving species not just in Jersey, but around the world. At Butterfield, we are committed to supporting the communities and environments we call home. We look forward to working with Durrell for the next two years.”
