Work a shift as an orangutan keeper at Jersey Zoo and become a member of one of our great ape extended families. Meeting our mischievous Sumatran orangutans is a unique and memorable experience. This experience will last for one hour.
During your experience you will:
- Go behind the scenes of the orangutan enclosure to a ‘keepers only’ area
- Prepare a tasty and interesting treat for the orangutans
- Hear personal insights into the lives of the apes from our experienced and passionate keepers
- Have exclusive photo opportunities
- Find out about Durrell’s mission to save species from extinction
These amazing experiences are only available for a limited number of days (Tuesdays and Sundays) each month, so we advise booking early. You can make a group or individual booking. - This experience takes place at Jersey Zoo, Channel Islands

- Each £120 payment is for one person and includes admission to the zoo
- This experience lasts for 1 hour
- This experience is for a maximum of 4 people per session
- Your experience may be shared with other guests
- This experience is suitable for children aged 10 and over
- All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult who also has a paid experience ticket
- Please book 4 to 6 weeks in advance
- Your visit may be altered at short notice should animal welfare concerns be raised
- Animal handling is not permitted; proximity to the animals is at the keeper’s discretion on the day
- Cancellation with fewer than 7 days' notice will incur a 100% cancellation fee
- We may use the details you enter during the purchasing process to contact you about the experience afterwards
- This ‘Meet the Orangutans’ package is valid for 12 calendar months from the date of purchase
