A £50 gift could support a keeper at Jersey Zoo helping safeguard the vulnerable lesser night gecko from Mauritius.

The keeper monitors rescued geckos and their eggs in our bio-secure breeding facility, matches temperature and light cycles to natural seasons, checks hatchling health, and prepares eggs for reintroduction. These actions support the survival of the species, preserving genetic diversity and ensuring that eggs can be safely returned to Mauritius, where they hatch and rebuild a resilient wild population.

A £100 gift could support the work of an ecologist at our Dalnacardoch Estate in the Scottish Cairngorms – Durrell’s largest ever restoration programme at 7,500 hectares.

The ecologist carries out surveys, maps degraded peatlands, monitors vegetation and hydrology, and tracks wildlife returning to the estate. This work guides the restoration of peatlands, native woodlands, montane scrub, heath, and freshwater habitats, helping iconic species such as golden eagles, ptarmigan, pine martens, mountain hares, and rare insects to thrive.

A £500 gift could support a ranger from the local community at Lake Sofia in Madagascar, helping safeguard the world’s rarest duck, the Critically Endangered Madagascar pochard.

The ranger surveys the lake to count and monitor the ducks, maintains floating feeding platforms, records water levels and vegetation health, and patrols the wetland to prevent fishing or land clearance. They support the survival of the pochards, ensuring the ducks have safe, healthy habitats in which to feed, breed, and thrive.
