Clubbing ‘tee-gether’ to save species from extinction

Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust’s annual ‘Go Wild Golf Day’ raised an amazing £11,000 this year to support the charity’s work in saving species from extinction. Now in its eighth year, the event took place on Friday 19th June at La Moye Golf Club and was kindly sponsored once again by Rathbones Investment Management International (RIMI).

Despite the foggy start, twenty teams of four battled it out on the course to be in with the chance to take home one of the many prizes on the day. Team ‘Reckon’ which consisted of Alfie Greenway, David Whittaker, Oliver Hughes and Tom Lovell took first place, followed by ‘Durrell Birdies’ in second place, and 'Durrell Team’ in third place. Winners of 'Nearest to the Pin' were Ryan Lambotte and Angela de Figuerdo at the 3rd hole, and Mark Lewis and Brona Lambert at the 12th.

After finishing up on the course, all of the teams came together for lunch, where they were joined by Durrell's CEO, Rebecca Brewer and Zoo Engagement Co-ordinator, James Gotts, who provided a detailed overview of the new gorilla house at the zoo and how the troop have settled in.

Commenting on the day, Rebecca Brewer said: "We are so grateful to all of the teams that joined us once again for our Go Wild Golf Day. Not only was it an entertaining day both on and off the course, but it helped us raise valuable funds for our work to save precious wildlife around the world. We owe a huge thank you once again to our amazing and loyal sponsor, Rathbones, as they help make events like this possible. Thanks also to La Moye Golf Club for helping us host. The support from them and everyone that attended on the day means so much to us."

Business Development Director at Rathbones, Andrew Robbins added: ‘We are delighted with the success of this year's Durrell golf day, despite the foggy start, in what was Rathbones’ 8th year as principal partner for the event.  We would like to thank everyone who participated and contributed so generously to the fundraising on the day.  The support shown by the local business community will make a meaningful difference to Durrell's vital conservation work in Jersey and around the world.’
