Absolutely fantastic! The staff were brilliant, so friendly, nothing too much trouble and it’s great value for money. First we were taken into the staff feeding room, to gather our food supplies for the two experiences. Then off to the Meerkats to feed them, to see how far you can throw fruit and then mealworms, to encourage natural foraging. Fun to watch! Next you’re onto the Otters, and this is where it gets very special. They have a little hole for putting food through, but the male has decided that it’s great fun to put his hand through to shake your hand – you have to see it to believe it! If you’re umming and arring about this experience book it – don’t be like the other visitors on our zoo day that were really upset that they didn’t book. Plenty of photo opportunities and staff happy to take photos.

I first read “My Family and Other Animals” for my English ‘O’ Level and have been entranced by Gerald Durrell ever since. Looking for a short trip to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary with our 10 year old son and suddenly I was on my way to Jersey to the Durrell Zoo. As an extra treat, my husband arranged for my son and I to have a Meerkats and Otters experience. The Zoo is amazing all round but the experience with the meerkats and especially the otters took it entirely to another level. The Keeper was knowledgeable and friendly and knew how to make the most of the experience for her audience. She was even kind enough to ensure my husband knew where to be to take the best photographs. Feeding both animals was incredible but holding paws with the otter was definitely the highlight of the experience. My son and I went away with a small gift and a certificate and a whole host of lovely memories. I would most heartily recommend the experience as worthwhile and wonderful.
