In his childhood, our founder Gerald Durrell uncovered the simple wonder of what happens when we partner with the natural world. Since 1959, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust has continued this legacy, successfully making strides towards rewilding 10 different ecosystems across the world’s major biomes, while implementing leading zoo-led conservation and captive breeding programmes from here at Jersey Zoo.
From taking swift action to save the home of the Madagascar pochard in Madagascar’s Lake Sofia to safeguarding the black lion tamarin by planting native tree corridors throughout Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, our projects are at the forefront of rewilding some of the world’s most threatened ecosystems.
We want to continue our mission to recover populations of endangered species back to plentiful levels, cultivating ecosystems that are functional, diverse and resilient. As a leading organisation in modern conservation methods, we collaborate with over 50 different partners to deliver our expertise where it is needed most.
