Join us as we celebrate 67 years since Jersey Zoo first opened its gates to the public and discover the extraordinary story of the man behind it all!

Take part in a weekend filled with creativity, discovery and conservation as we explore Gerry’s life, passions and lasting legacy.

Take part in activities around the zoo, including:
  • Free art workshop with local artist Jamie Willow from Drawn by Jamie (book your space here)
  • A brand-new Gerald Durrell trail on the zoo app
  • Talks from Durell staff about our global conservation work
  • An exhibition of art and poetry submitted to our competiton (details below)

Come along, get creative and celebrate the life and legacy of Gerald Durrell.

All activities are free with standard zoo admission.

Art Competition

Are you a budding artist in Jersey? Do you have a way with words? Fancy having your work displayed at Jersey Zoo?

How to enter:

  • Create a piece of art (e.g. a painting, drawing, collage) or a poem to celebrate Jersey Zoo or Gerald Durrell.
  • Include your name, age, parent / guardian’s name (for under 18s), contact email and phone number. 
  • Email your entry to learning@durrell.org or drop it off at the Jersey Zoo Visitor Centre addressed to ‘Durrell Learning’.

Closing date: World Art Day on Wednesday 15th April 2026.

Winners of each age category will be notified via email or telephone on Friday 17th April 2026.

Age categories: 0-5 years, 6-12 years, 13-18 years and over 18s.

Prizes include animal experiences, tickets to zoo events, entry tickets to the zoo and Jersey Zoo gifts.

Competition Terms & Conditions
  • The competition is open to Jersey residents only.
  • Entries must be 2D (i.e. not a sculpture) and no bigger than A2.
  • Entries are limited to one per person.
  • All entries will be displayed in Jersey Zoo’s Durrell Discovery Centre after the winners have been notified.
  • If you would like your work returned after the display has finished, please email learning@durrell.org to organise collection from the Jersey Zoo Visitor Centre.
