James is the Chief Executive of Marwell Wildlife, a conservation charity committed to the conservation of the earth’s biodiversity and natural resources.  In addition to running Marwell Zoo, a much-loved regional attraction, Marwell also undertakes a portfolio of overseas work, primarily in Africa and Central Asia, in furtherance of its scientific and conservation objectives.

The zoo itself is one of the largest attractions in the Hampshire, and in 2022 was awarded the coveted Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Sustainable Development, and the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA) Award for Sustainability.  James has been a council member of WAZA, during which time he has chaired both its animal welfare and finance committees.
