The Role

We offer several training Internships at Jersey Zoo for aspiring or early career conservationists looking for experience that will help them get a foot on the conservation or Zoo career ladder. Jersey Zoo is world-renowned for focusing on the breeding, care and conservation of some of the most threatened species. An Internship at Durrell will provide hands-on experience learning from experts in their field.

Where can you train?

There are opportunities to develop your skills in the mammal, bird, herpetology and Zoo education departments or on our red-billed chough reintroduction project. As well as hands-on experience all interns will benefit from monthly lectures given by expert staff from different parts of the organisation. There is also an opportunity to carry out research projects, if this is a requirement of your sandwich or industry placement.

How long can I train?

We offer Internships of minimum of 6 months to a maximum of 12 months in length. Students attending a placement over 8 months will get the chance to work in two departments. There is some flexibility with start dates.

Eligibility

Applicants must be over 18 years and studying or have completed their studies in a relevant subject (degree or diploma level) and/or can demonstrate their passion for working in a zoo or conservation environment.
