Description

Come behind the scenes with Durrell’s Veterinary Team to learn about the hugely important and varied role they play in caring for our amazing animals, both in Jersey and overseas.

What to expect

• Develop your understanding of how we care for exotic species and how we use this knowledge in our conservation projects in the wild
• Watch clinical examinations or surgery - this may range from pregnancy scans to examining an animal under anaesthesia
  
• Where possible, accompany the veterinary staff on their rounds, learning the unusual methods we use to treat different species
  
• Work alongside the veterinary biologist, using a microscope to look for parasites and bacteria
  
• Attend an animal post-mortem examination, where we look for the cause of death and prevent the spread of disease (optional)
  
• Learn how to dart an animal, 007 style, or how to stitch up a wound on a mock patient

Your Vet Experience will run from 9am - 1pm and includes admission to Durrell Wildlife park.

You will also receive a Vet Experience pack, which includes a DVD that provides a preview of your experience and other Durrell videos.

We will use the details you enter during the purchasing process to contact you about the experience.

Who is it for?
Adults* and children over 13 years old (if accompanied by an adult).
(*We consider an adult to be 18 years old and over)

£75 per person or £300 for a group of 4

This amazing experience is only available for a limited number of days each month, so we advise booking early.

Please note:

• Proximity and contact with the animals is up to the Veterinary Department’s discretion on the day
• Your visit may be altered at short notice should animal welfare concerns be raised
• Certain areas of the animal routine may be excluded in line with Health and Safety requirements
• Those attending must be adults* and children over 13 years of age (if accompanied by an adult)
• For safety reasons, animal contact will not be permitted as we care for wild animals
• Cancellation with less than 7 days notice will result in your money being lost
• The ‘Vet Experience’ package is valid for 12 calendar months from the date of purchase
