guided tours

We are fortunate to have numerous volunteer guides who are able to take you or your group on a personal tour of our Jersey site (with French and German speaking tours available). Guided tours must be pre-booked 4 working days in advance by calling +44 (0)1534 860000 or e-mail guides@durrell.org  Such tours are given by our excellent volunteers who donate their time free of charge for the benefit of the Trust. As an international charity we need to perpetuate funds to continue our important conservation work, and therefore a discretionary donation of at least £10 per person is recommended. Please give 24 hours notice of any cancellations or amendments.

In addition to organised tours, trained guides are positioned around the site to answer your questions. Don't forget to join our 'Animal Talks' to find out more about the animals Durrell has in Jersey.

Keeper for a Day

  • The Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust has almost half a century of success at saving species from extinction—both in the wild and through groundbreaking conservation breeding at our headquarters in Jersey.
Now you, a friend, or relative, can join our team in Jersey for a day, helping our experienced staff care for our animals.
It’s an opportunity to gain a unique insight into the work of Durrell and have a memorable day.

Behind the Scenes Tour

  • This tour will offer a number of opportunities to speak to different members of staff at various enclosures
  • At least one opportunity to visit an area that is normally out of bounds to the public
  • An opportunity to visit a ‘non-animal’ department
  • At least one “experience” to prepare an animal feed; get up close to an animal or enter an enclosure (at all times with a keeper); and/or gain access to an area that would not normally be part of a tour (i.e. the gorilla or orang-utan kitchen)
  • Tea/coffee breaks are included
  • The chance to spend time with a volunteer guide where you can discover more about the public areas of the site
