The Durrell Concert
Saturday 7th November , 20:00-23:00
Durrell's 50th anniversary year of celebrations is being rounded off with a gala concert of the highest quality. This November, the island's largest concert venue, Fort Regent, will ring to the sounds of The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, one of the finest orchestras in the world, led by the internationally renowned conductor, Barry Wordsworth.
British TV star, Martin Clunes, will be there to narrate the musical story ‘Peter and the Wolf’, along with other stars of stage and screen.
The programme for the concert will be: The Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saens, Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev, The Wasps overture by Vaughan Williams and "The Durrell Suite", a new commission from Jersey Based composer, Derek Lawrence. The piece utilizes a choir of over 200 children representing many local Jersey schools specially trained by staff from the Jersey Instrumental Service.
The evening will be a spectacular demonstration of musical talent combined with recognition of Gerald Durrell’s humour and lust for life. It will be a fitting way to end this unique year celebrating the realisation of one man’s dream.
