Kate Denton Exhibition

Thursday 16th July - Saturday 25th July

kate Denton

Sculptress and artist, Kate Denton spent one month last summer at the Trust's orangutan longhouse studying Durrell's animals and has created a number of pieces that will feature in a major exhibition to be held as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations.

Kate's sculptures have been created using a variety of materials, including straw, plaster and clay, including a life-size orangutan, lemur, macaque and various reptiles which make-up part of the 60 piece exhibition.

Kate was born in Sheffield spending her formative years living in the Channel Islands and studied sculpture and casting techniques at Goldsmiths College under Sir Ivor Robert-Jones. Since then she has worked as a sculptor for 30 years and has exhibited widely in the UK. Her works are also held in collections overseas, especially in Europe, America and South Africa, she lives and works in south London.

Kate described why she was so pleased to be coming back to Jersey: “I feel deeply privileged to work at the Trust studying animals at the peak of their physical fitness. Having drawn the animals at Durrell since I was 14 years old, and having had a lot of encouragement from Gerald Durrell, it feels like coming home.”
