The Beauty of Birds course is a three day course aimed at bird enthusiasts wanting to gain a greater understanding of birds, practical field skills, behavioural ecology and bird conservation.

Who is it for?

The course is aimed at amatuer bird enthusiasts and offers a unique opportunity to get behind the scenes at Durrell.

What is the course content?

The course will include sessions on:

  • What makes birds so special
  • Bird monitoring - different techniques and when to use them
  • Basic bird taxonomy and identification
  • Birds and conservation: the Durrell experience of worldwide bird conservation
  • Global issues for bird conservation

Who will lead the course?

The course will be delivered by a team of renowned bird specialists with extensive experience of bird conservation and husbandry both in Jersey and worldwide.

How will you benefit?

In addition to furthering your understanding of why birds are special, field skills, behaviour ecology and conservation, there will be an opportunity to get involved with practical activities including guided bird walks and bird monitoring. You will also get the opportunity to go behind the scenes in the bird department at Durrell.

Where will the course be run?

The course will be run at the International Training Centre at Durrell's headquarters in Jersey.

How much will it cost?
