The Avian egg incubation workshop is a four day practical workshop designed to give participants the skills required to successfully incubate bird eggs and deal with problems that could arise.
The workshop will cover the following:
The course is being run by Susie Kasielke, curator of birds at the Los Angeles Zoo, and Pat Witman, from San Diego Zoo. There will also be additional lectures from Durrell's bird department and Prof. Carl Jones MBE.
Participants will break out embryos at all stages of development (older embryos are euthanised first) and gain first hand experience of candling techniques, egg repair, hatching assistance and egg necropsy.
The course will be held at the ITC at Durrell's Jersey headquarters.
Further details can be downloaded here.
The course will cost £500 which includes lunches and refreshments (discounted to £400 if paid at least 8 weeks in advance). Optional full-board on-site accommodation can be provided at an additional cost of £35 per night.
