This very special collector's plate is issued in celebration of fifty years of wildlife conservation by the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. This handsome, large (31 cm) plate, branded in gold, depicts Gerald Durrell from an original painting by Ken Howard, surrounded by some of the iconic species which Durell has, over the last fifty years, helped to save from extinction.
The eleven featured species were specifically chosen by Lee Durrell and are beautifully depicted by wildlife artist Monique Le Monnier. They include the lowland gorilla; gentle lemur; Majorcan midwife toad; Livingstone fruit bat; pygmy hog of Assam; ploughshare tortoise; Maurtian kestrel and pink pigeon; golden lion tamarin; Round Island gecko and white eared pheasant.
Each plate is boxed and comes complete with a full colour booklet describing the species featured in the design and the work the Trust has undertaken to save them.
