Peter Double, long-standing Angling Correspondent for the Jersey Evening Post, was, by his own admission, a 'nature novice'. Nevertheless, a love of the great outdoors and of plants and animals of all descriptions, as well as an abiding curiosity, encouraged him in his investigation of the natural world.
Jersey, though a tiny island, boasts a surprisingly diverse range of habitats and is home to a remarkable and sometimes unique flora and fauna-in addition to the riches of the sea and sea-shore. Look beyond the constructions of man and where there is a Wild Island at your feet, waiting to be discovered. Many of us share a fascination with nature, a world that is open to all and entirely free of access.
In this book,Peter has recorded a year's observations, based upon the cycle of seasons in Jersey, and presents his findings. Written in his typically robust and unstuffy style-by turn whimsical, witty and wondering, but always eminently readable-this book will open your eyes to the real Jersey and to value what is so special and enduring about this Channel Island.
Nick Parlett often accompanied Peter in his explorations and has specially prepared all the pictures which illustrate the text. The result is a beautiful book which will prove an inspiration to everyone who loves Jersey.
