Jambo, Swahili for “Hello”, is best known for the gentleness displayed towards the little boy who fell into the gorilla enclosure at Jersey Zoo one afternoon in 1986 – an act which helped dispel the myth of the aggressive gorilla. Written by the man who knew him best – Richard Johnstone-Scott, Jambo’s keeper for fifteen years – Jambo: A Gorilla’s Story chronicles the life of Jersey Zoo’s world-famous silverback gorilla, as well as providing a fascinating insight into the behaviour and psychological make-up of gorillas.
