eBay auction to name newly born ring-tailed lemur twins winners
28th July 2010
We are delighted to announce the winners of the ebay auction to name our baby twin ring-tailed lemurs as Durrell Life Members Peter and Edwina Reeves from Buckinghamshire. (Click here to view the news story of the auction)
The winning bid was £1650 with a total of 41 bidders.
Mr & Mrs Reeves were already considering making a donation to durrell when they saw the ebay auction on the Durrell website and decided to donate to that instead.
The lemur twins will be named Tigger & Piglet as in Winne the Pooh characters. The reason for this is because years ago Edwina and Peter rescued a Rhodesian Ridgeback dog. When they arrived to collect the rescue dog, she had recently had a litter of pups and there was only one remaining. They didn't want to separate Mother and daughter and so took them both home who they named Tigger and Piglet because they were both so playful and reminded them of the Winnie the Pooh characters. Unfortunately Piglet (the daughter) died of cancer at 6 years old and was followed a year later by Mum Tigger who also died of cancer.
Edwina Reeves commented "We are so pleased to have won the eBay campaign. As life long members of Durrell we wanted to make a donation to their important work and now the memory of our Tigger and Piglet lives on at the wildlife park".
