3rd August 2010
Durrell has recently announced a new and totally unique experience for visitors. From August ‘Les Noyers Hostel’ a traditional Jersey farm house which is located in the north western corner of Durrell’s wildlife park will be marketed as a unique place for holiday makers to stay. The accommodation offers ten bedrooms catering for 24 people in individual, shared and family rooms with rates starting from just £25 per night. The Les Noyers Hostel offering is ‘hostel style’ with shared shower and toilet facilities. As an opening offer anyone booking to stay between August and October 2010 can stay at a cost of £20 per person per night.
Included in the price is a complimentary ticket to enter the wildlife park and other facilities include a TV lounge, free WiFi, lecture theatre which can be turned into a mini cinema, private garden and laundry facilities. Rooms are offered on a bed and continental breakfast basis.
Les Noyers is currently home to Durrell’s International Training Centre (ITC) which runs courses over approximately thirty weeks of the year; this means that during the remaining time when ITC staff are busy preparing materials on site and running courses overseas the accommodation wing is left dormant.
Commenting on this exciting new revenue earning initiative for Durrell, Head of the ITC Jamie Copsey said, “It’s fantastic that we can now accommodate tourists and groups on-site at Durrell. You can’t beat being woken up to the sounds of the Madagascar rainforests as the lemurs start their morning chorus. It’s great that the general public can now experience this for themselves and at the same time be making a valuable contributing towards our conservation work.”
