Following the success of the Anniversary Year last year, Durrell Day festivities in 2010 will actually take place over a weekend, on 14-15 August, kindly supported by NatWest. Throughout the wildlife park different zones focusing on key conservation and fundraising initiatives and specific species will keep visitors busy, as well as talks from keepers and interactive games.

Key highlights will be:

  • a chance to take part in a scavenger hunt throughout the park
  •  a bat zone to learn about interesting bat facts and even compare your arm span against that of the largest and smallest bats in the world
  • a bird zone to learn about bird collecting and husbandry with experts as well as compare eggs from the species in the park
  • Come and see the world famous mountain chicken frog project in the amphibian and reptile zone with special behind the scenes information
  •  Highlighting the unique biodiversity of Madagascar, the Kirindy zone showcases different species and the communities Durrell works with, in the field
  • Hog zone: From Durrell’s very own red river hogs to the smallest and rarest hog in the world, the pygmy hog, everyone can gain an insight into Durrell’s work in Jersey and India
  • Genuine Jersey market: Genuine Jersey members are familiar faces at the St Aubin and Weighbridge farmers and crafts market and other events held throughout the year. They will return once again for Durrell Day selling locally created products
  • Den building: Build a den like your favourite animal with the entire family throughout Durrell Day. With materials provided, the opportunities are endless

Lee Durrell, Honorary Director, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust says, “It was always going to be difficult to top last year’s Anniversary Year Durrell Day - but by extending the festivities over two days instead of just one will hopefully achieve this. We would really like to see as many people there as possible to help join in the fun and come and support Durrell in what’s been a difficult year.”

The park will be open from 10am - 6pm on the 14-15 August. Entrance fee will be £5 for adults and free for children under 16 and Durrell members. Access through the parish of Trinity will be restricted over this weekend. Additional bus services will be running. To find out more please contact: Tel: 01534 860000.
