Final preparations are being made at Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust ahead of this weekend’s bumper two-day event when locals and visiting tourists can come and explore the famous grounds and exhibits at a reduced entrance fee.

The event, kindly sponsored by NatWest, brings together different zones, positioned all over the grounds which focus on key conservation and fundraising initiatives, as well as talks from keepers and interactive games. Pick up your copy of Gallery magazine for a map and itinerary of the weekend.

Lee Durrell, Honorary Director, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust says, “There has been a lot of hard work that has gone into making the weekend’s festivities a really joyous occasion. We hope that many local people and tourists will be able to make it. It will be an event not to be missed!”

Key highlights will be:

  • A chance to take part in a scavenger hunt throughout the grounds
  • A bat zone to learn about interesting bat facts and even compare your arm span against that of the largest and smallest bats in the world
  • A bird zone to learn about bird collecting and husbandry with experts as well as compare eggs from the species in the park
  • Come and see the world famous mountain chicken frog project in the amphibian and reptile zone with special behind the scenes information
  • Highlighting the unique biodiversity of Madagascar, the Kirindy zone showcases different species and the communities Durrell works with, in the field
  • Hog zone: From Durrell’s very own red river hogs to the smallest and rarest hog in the world, the pygmy hog, everyone can gain an insight into Durrell’s work in Jersey and india
  • Genuine Jersey market: Genuine Jersey members are familiar faces at the St Aubin and Weighbridge farmers and crafts market and other events held throughout the year. They will return once again for Durrell Day selling locally created products
  • Den building: Build a den like your favourite animal with the entire family throughout Durrell Day. With materials provided, the opportunities are endless

Throughout the two days there will be various talks from Durrell guides and animal keepers. The information below details what’s happening, when and where.
