Young conservationists to secure the future of endangered species under a new guise
12th December 2011
Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust’s young conservationists will be helping to secure the future of endangered species under a new name after it was discovered the group shared the same initials as those registered by a local finance business.
Durrell Conservation Group will now be known as Durrell Teenage Volunteers after corporate services firm DCG launched a competition to rename the group.
DCG employees Jo Robinson and Andrew McNulty came up with the winning name and both won family memberships for one year. Two teenage winners, Matt Fauvel and Eve Taylor-Cox, also won the opportunity to adopt an animal for a year and chose an otter and a tamarin monkey.
In addition, DCG has donated various items to Durrell Teenage Volunteers including waterproofs, binoculars and butterfly nets, as well as offering support in developing a new facebook page to promote the teenagers’ work and assisting with the costs of advertising around the name change.
Christopher Bennett, managing director of DCG Real Estate, commented: “When we realised Durrell was sharing our business name we wanted to come up with a fun and novel way to rebrand the young conservationists’. Durrell Teenage Volunteers encapsulates what the group is about and it has been a pleasure to work with the team at Durrell. Overall, DCG has supported Durrell Teenage Volunteers to the tune of more than £5,000 and we wish them well with their future projects.”
Durrell comment: Jamie Copsey, Head of Training and Education “DCG has been very generous in ensuring Durrell was able to launch the new name and the Durrell Teenage Volunteers are very much looking forward to learning more about how they can make a real difference, working towards the conservation charity’s misson to save species from extinction.”
In a separate donation, DCG has also given Durrell 50 seventeen inch monitors which the business no longer required.
