Durrell Chief Executive test drives new JEC smart car
10th August 2011
Recently, Paul Masterton, Chief Executive of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, test drove one of the latest all-electric, emission-free smart cars made by Mercedes, courtesy of Jersey Electricity (‘JEC’).
JEC is participating in an exclusive trial of the latest electrically powered cars and lent Durrell’s CEO one of their five smart ED’s (electric drive). The trial is part of a campaign by JEC to give islanders the chance to experience electric driving, during the four years the JEC have the new second generation smart cars on trial.
Powered solely by electricity, the Smart Car’s manufacturer, Mercedes, claims it has zero emissions, which is naturally of interest to the JEC, who are committed to reducing Jersey’s carbon emissions, and also to Durrell, whose mission of ‘saving species from extinction’ means it is committed to conservation and pursuing environmentally sound practices.
