Groundbreaking approach to protect world biodiversity - Dr. Stephan Funk and Prof. John Fa from the organisation's conservation programme have published a study that will enable conservation organisations to join forces and work together on protecting crucial natural areas of the world. This innovative high-level investigation, complements our hands-on work to save species from extinction, and demonstrates the breadth and depth of Durrell's conservation activities.

Projects - Conservation at Durrell is the core of our mission and we save species through our field programmes, wildlife park and training centre. Currently we have 45 projects running in 14 countries run by over 50 dedicated field staff.

Publications - One of the central goals of Durrell's conservation programme is to enhance the evidence base for conservation practitioners in the field. We want to ensure that the knowledge generated through our projects and in collaboration with others is made available to the widest possible audience and becomes a resource both for current and future conservationists.

TopSpots - There are so many areas in the world that need conservation action that we must prioritise where the limited resources available should be allocated to achieve the greatest gains. Durrell has developed an approach that identifies those areas that contain the most special and the most threatened species on the planet. These are our TopSpots.

Blog - Back in the UK you have been experiencing the arrival of spring, here on the Island of Hispaniola we are still waiting for our next season to start in earnest – namely the rainy season. The island is currently experiencing a bit of a drought and although this is not a good thing in general, it has meant that we have managed to avoid any major soakings since our last update. That’s not to say that no rain has fallen, it just means we have not been caught out in the field when it has. However, instead we have had to cope with searing hot temperatures in order to look for solenodon and hutia in remote sites which can only be accessed via very long treks through areas of dry forest with little or no shade. Its been tough going!!
