My brother Mark and I have decided to do a sponsored run for Durrell to raise money to help the Trust with its huge ongoing efforts of saving endangered animals from extinction .
The park and its animal collection is one of a kind and the only one we have in Jersey. So many of us have many great memories there.
Our fundraising will involve my brother Mark and I doing a 20 mile sponsored run and to throw in more of a challenge we will be carrying backpacks with 30lbs of weight in. The backpacks will also carry a conservation message, of how the condition of our planet and the effect on its precious animals bear a weight on our shoulders.
I have done long distance running before but never before have I done a run with any weight so this will be a challenge for me. Mark has done this kind of stuff before so I am sure he can give me some tips to make it easier for me. To give a rough comparison, 60Ibs between is around the same weight as a young orangutan.
The run will be taking place on Sunday June 20th at 9am and we will be passing through the grounds of Durrell.
