2011 celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Durrell in Madagascar and our success with saving species from extinction – the Durrell way!
Having signed an agreement with the Government of Madagascar to collaborate on conservation initiatives in 1983, the Trust established an active in-country field programme in 1986, which has improved the prospects of many threatened species and the wellbeing of the human communities that live near them.
Sadly, Madagascar is an island at risk. It is home to some of the most enchanting animals and unusual habitats in the world, but the survival of many of them is uncertain. Nevertheless, we have proven that it is possible to save species and the wild places where they live and to help them along the road to recovery. We have accomplished much in the last 25 years, but we need your support if we are to continue with similar success over the next 25 years.
For those people fortunate enough to visit or work on Madagascar, most will agree that it leaves a lasting impression on their hearts and minds. I hope we are able to inspire you about this spectacular island and that you will want to become part of our efforts there in our mission to save species from extinction.
Misaotra tompoko!
Thank you very much!
