Rio Cauca caecilians birth (Typhlonectes natans)

 

Caecilians are legless amphibians and are distributed throughout the tropics. We know very little about the biology and conservation status of most caecilians in general although the species we have here at Durrell in the video are not threatened with extinction and are fairly commonly bred in captivity (Two females gave birth this year, one female gave birth to 5 young and the other gave birth to 8. This was a Durrell first)
