Galapagos Charter
Monday 15th September 2008
Discovery Initiatives has chartered the finest small yacht currently operating in Galapagos, the Alta, for a unique 8-day cruise in support of Durrell.
It was Charles Darwin’s September 1835 exploration of The Galapagos Islands, whilst serving as a naturalist on HMS Beagle, and his subsequent 1859 publication on the Origin of the Species by Natural Selection, that first brought the world’s attention to Galapagos.
This cruise will take you beyond the ‘run of the mill’ 8 day tours. It is designed to offer you a privileged insight into the exotic plant life, unique wildlife species and the extraordinary landscape of the islands themselves.
View the steps that Durrell is taking to conserve the mangrove finch - one of the rarest birds in the world; enjoy privileged access to the Charles Darwin Research Centre; see some of the last remaining wild tortoises on Isabela and meet the experts who have dedicated themselves to this natural paradise.
You will be guided by the best expertise in the field and led by Quentin Bloxam, Durrell’s Director of Conservation Management who accompanied Gerald Durrell on a number of his expeditions around the world.
£500 per person raised through the trip will go directly to Durrell to support this ongoing conservation work in the islands. The total cost is £5,185 including international flights based on a twin-share - Download Full Details
These trips are run on behalf of Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust (Charity No. 232004) by Discovery Initiatives Ltd, an award winning nature travel operator, ATOL Number 6945 (Steppes Travel). All bookings are made with Discovery Initiatives, under their published terms and conditions.
