”In Memory” Boardwalk in Durrell's Grounds
The boardwalk is situated in the middle valley in the grounds of Durrell's beautiful 31 acre Jersey headquarters and was built as part of the Valley Restoration Project. While the upper valley is home to many exotic species of plants, the middle valley concentrates on local plants that will attract Jersey wildlife. Phragmite reeds have been planted on either side of the boardwalk to provide a habitat that will attract many different sorts of insects and birds. The reeds will eventually grow to a height of around 9ft – 10ft. and will allow, once grown, tantalising sights of the family of Greater flamingos that can presently be seen from the end of the boardwalk.
There is a special opportunity to remember a loved one at the end of many of the boards that make up the boardwalk. This is in the form of a small plaque (plaques are 4 inches by 2 inches).
If you are interested in making a donation for a board, together with a plaque in memory of a loved one, please contact Rachel Bailey by email or call her on +44 (0)1534 860065 for more details. Each board, together with plaque, is a suggested donation of £200.
