On Sunday 13th April 2008, thousands will take to the streets of the capital to run an exhausting 26 mile race, the world famous Flora London Marathon.
Many are running for charity, making the Flora London Marathon the biggest annual fundraising event nationwide, raising millions for good causes.
This year, Durrell are very lucky to have the support of Alex, who is bravely running to raise funds for our conservation projects. Alex explained why Durrell was her chosen charity: "Gerald Durrell's books were such an inspiration. They influenced what I am doing today and I felt an allegiance to the Trust."
All money raised goes directly to help support Durrell in our bid to save species from extinction. Please show your support by donating to this special appeal.
Thank you Alex, and good luck!

" When I was young, Gerald Durrell's wonderful books were among my favourites, and were a huge influence on me. I developed an interest in the natural world, and ended up studying zoology and working on natural history programmes for the BBC.
The Trust that Durrell founded, works to conserve species all around the world. What impresses me about them is the way that they do very good research into exactly how best to go about the conservation work, they work hand-in-hand with local people in the countries they work (and have an international training school with scholarships for people all over the world), and they never think that a species is too rare to be worth working with. The stories of their successes are truly inspiring. There's no one I would trust more to put any money I can help raise to the best use possible. I think that's worth running 26 miles for (ask me again on the afternoon of Sunday 13th April!)"
