Durrell’s mission is saving species from extinction. It is therefore committed to the conservation of the earth’s biodiversity. Conservation, the environment and the principles of sustainability are intrinsically linked, mutually supportive and share common objectives. Success for Durrell and for overall biodiversity conservation requires healthy ecosystems and environments. Reflecting this Durrell is committed to developing, following and enhancing effective environmental and sustainability policies and programmes.
Improving overall environmental performance in all its operations is a founding principle for Durrell.
This is to be achieved by:
In pursuit of its mission Durrell will endeavour to minimise the environmental impact of all its activities, products and processes. Following the principles of reduce, reuse and recycle, the most economic and practical solutions will be sought.
Durrell commits to complying at a minimum with all legislation, regulations and industry codes associated with environmental standards, complementing this with our own standards as necessary.
Durrell will actively communicate to all stakeholders, its approach to the environment and sustainability, promoting and educating the critical needs of these areas.
Environmental issues and the views of interested parties, employees and the local community will be considered in strategic decisions affecting the environment. New investment proposals, activities, products and processes will be considered from an environmental perspective prior to approval.
Durrell will actively engage whenever possible with the communities where we operate, with regard to environmental issues, debates and initiatives.
All employees are expected to conduct their work in a manner compatible with the environmental policy and its objectives. Means will be provided to ensure that all people are aware of the policy and it will in turn be reflected in the Staff Handbook and in employment contracts.
Durrell places great emphasis on the approach taken to the environment and to sustainability when evaluating and selecting partners and suppliers.
