sustainability

Jersey is rightly concerned with its environmental impact and is taking steps to explore how it can consume less, using alternative sustainable technologies and making better use of local energy sources.

MeercatsDurrell will use the site development to its own advantage for reducing its impact and consumption of external resources, while demonstrating sustainable technologies in action. As a test-bed and demonstration, we shall subject possible technologies to rigorous cost-benefit analysis of returns and payback times, within the demanding range of climatic regimes that our new buildings will require.

We shall examine the full range of techniques from rain water harvesting, grey water collection and cycling, to ground source heat pumps, waste vegetable oil, solar and wind.
