Ian Kerr

Ian KerrI have recently retired as the proprietor of Midas, one of the UK’s larger, and longest established, fundraising consultancies. As a trustee I am looking for an organisation in which I can be proactive in some capacity and to learn about conservation.

My specific contribution is in assisting in the management of fundraising and capital appeals. I am, arguably, one of the UK’s most experienced capital appeal fundraisers having been involved with about 30 such appeals of various sizes and trained about 100 fundraisers in capital appeal procedure.

I have always had a passion for animals which I could never indulge previously with a hectic lifestyle and international travel. Now I look forward to learning more and hope to attend some of the charity’s training courses.

I offer a broad background in the voluntary sector: for example I have started one of Europe’s largest charities, helped to found 2 fundraising bodies, chaired a chain of 40 charity shops and have been a trustee of 3 other charities. Prior to retiring I was a fellow of the British Institute of Management and the Institute of Financial and Administrative Accountants.

N.B
To assist Durrell with their immediate fundraising and capital campaign objectives, Ian will be acting as interim Development Director, reporting to the Chief Executive. In accordance with the governance rules of the Trust, whereby an executive cannot also be a Trustee, Ian will temporarily step down from the Board of Trustees. On conclusion of this interim role, the intention is for Ian to return to the Board.
