Its Time

It’s 2009 and Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is 50 years old. But while Durrell will be celebrating 50 years of existence, the Trust is also using this significant landmark as the reason to engage with all audiences, to ensure another 50 years of success in conservation.

Durrell has achieved so much. In Jersey, Durrell’s major breeding firsts include: Alaotran gentle lemurs, Rodrigues and Livingstone’s fruit bats, Rodrigues fodys, Madagascan flat-tailed tortoises, Round Island boas and Montserrat mountain chicken frogs. Thanks to the generous support of our members and friends, the Trust has also brought a number of species back from the brink of extinction.

But this is only the tip of the iceberg. With the planet’s biodiversity in desperate peril and in more need of help than ever, what we all do to contribute to the earth’s health and wellbeing, including the protection and maintenance of vital species worldwide, will be critical.
