Durrell’s Sustainability Team is responsible for leading Durrell’s approach to sustainability through the development of ambitious targets, a continuous improvement philosophy, operating policies and procedures and a supporting, committed culture.
Durrell’s Sustainability Statement
Durrell is committed to operating in as environmentally an efficient way as possible, minimising any negative impact on the world we live in. We will develop and regularly review environmental policies and procedures, ensuring that the organisation is aware of and focused on key environmental issues, that we exemplify environmental best practice and operate in an environmentally sustainable manner.
Durrell’s Environmental Policy
Durrell will work towards a sustainable future for the organisation, for Jersey, for all the environments and communities in which it works and for the planet by committing itself to:
• | Achieving carbon neutral status through the reduction of carbon emissions and by carbon offsetting where further emission reductions are not possible |
• | Implementation of a formal environmental management system (EMS) that enables Durrell to become more sustainable through a step-by-step approach |
• | Monitoring environmental performance and setting annual targets for emissions and waste reduction |
• | Encouraging staff, visitors, volunteers and partners to become more sustainable in the way they operate |
• | Managing the Jersey site in a manner which minimises its environmental impact and, where possible, is beneficial to local flora and fauna |
• | The efficient use of materials and resources, focusing particularly on sustainable energy, water use and waste reduction |
• | Adopt a “reduce, re-use, recycle philosophy” |
• | Developing an environmentally friendly purchasing policy for goods and services |
• | Promoting sustainable living to staff, visitors, associated communities and organisations |
• | Acting as a strong local leader for sustainability and working in partnership with local businesses on sustainable activities |
• | Inspiring Durrell stakeholders to work towards a sustainable future |
