Search for new Trustees continues
12th March 2008
Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, a charity fighting to save the planet’s rarest animals from extinction, is seeking three dynamic individuals to join its Board of Trustees.
Durrell is looking for people with skills and experience in any of the following: conservation management and science; financial reporting; fund-raising, particularly capital campaign management; public attractions management.
Durrell was founded by naturalist and author Gerald Durrell nearly 50 years ago to establish breeding, research and release programmes for threatened species and to protect them in their natural habitats. The Trust runs conservation projects in 18 countries, employs more than 100 people, and has a membership of over 12,000.
Lee Durrell, widow of Gerald and Chairman of the Governance Committee, said: “The Trustees give the charity strategic direction, and promote good management and growth. We are looking for three people whose skills will help us turn our Vision for the future into a reality, and who compliment the other Trustees currently on our Board.
“Gerry founded the Trust at a time when many people refused to believe that species were becoming extinct. His foresight has been directly responsible for preventing species such as the Mauritius kestrel and echo parakeet from disappearing off the face of the earth.
“Today the Trust manages an array of exciting projects across the world. For example within the next 12 months we will be releasing pygmy hogs, a species so rare they were long considered extinct, back to the grasslands of India.
“We have launched our vision for the future and are promoting Gerry’s legacy in a way we never have done before. This is an excellent opportunity for people interested in supporting an important cause through their expertise and knowledge.”
