Good luck, Alex!
11th April 2008
As hundreds take to the streets of London in the world's favourite marathon this weekend, Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust is delighted to announce it will have the support of one brave runner amongst the many.
Inspired by Gerald Durrell's books, Alex has overcome her hatred of running and has been hard at work for the last few months, training for the 2008 Flora London Marathon.
"Gerald Durrell’s books were such an inspiration, they helped influence what I’m doing today. I suppose I felt an allegiance to the organisation."
Alex now works for the BBC Natural History Unit and has written for BBC Wildlife Magazine. In the past, she has liaised with some of Durrell's experts when working on various wildlife series.
With an aversion to running, Alex explained why she set herself such a tough task: "Running is one of the things I hate most in life. It is the biggest challenge I could have set myself."
Overcoming injury and a very late start to training, Alex now feels she's prepared for the 26-mile marathon, which she's doing in order to raise much needed funds for Durrell.
Thank you Alex, and good luck!
