Thirty of the most senior politicians in the Commonwealth spent time visiting Durrell's headquarters in Jersey, while holding their mid-year meeting in the Island last week.
The International Executive Committee, responsible for organising the annual conference of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association, meet once a year to discuss the conference, plan seminars and discuss other CPA business.
Aside from the two full-days of meetings, the senior parliamentarians attended a reception at Government House and enjoyed a tour of the Island.
Michael de la Haye, Greffier of the States of Jersey, says having such senior politicians here can only be a good thing: "The visit enables Jersey to showcase what it's all about. Many might not know we’re not part of the United Kingdom. We hope they'll understand more about the Island and what Jersey is all about, our economy, history and culture and hopefully they'll return home and talk about us."
Durrell's Commercial Director, Mark Powell: "As Durrell is an international charity with projects around the world it is a real pleasure to welcome politicians from the Commonwealth to our headquarters here in Trinity. Many would recognise species of animals that come from their country or nearby regions. We hope they have found the visit both informative and enjoyable and leave Jersey with some pleasant memories."
